On the chopping block for today is Larry Bond's Harpoon 3 Advanced
Naval Warfare strategy game by Matrix Games. The series has
apparently been through a long history of development and fan input,
all of which has now led to the latest and greatest release: Harpoon
3. The game is a hardcore navy strategy game and, as much as I
enjoyed it, I unfortunately cannot recommend it for the faint of heart.
Installation and Setup
Harpoon 3 is an easy install. All I had
to do was unzip the install file from the CD, run the installer, and
then I could jump into the game. However, I soon found that it's
really a much better idea to read the manual before you even think
about starting the game.
System Requirements:
Windows 98/XP/2000
800mHz CPU (1gHz recommended)
512MB RAM (1GB recommended)
80MB hard disk space
DirectX 9.0 or better
16bit DirectX compatible sound card
Updated video drivers
Windows compatible mouse
Personally, I found these
requirements to be very conservative. I ran the game perfectly
fine on an old Compaq of mine with Windows Me, 800mHz Celeron, and only
384MB of memory. The installer popped up with a warning that I
failed to meet the minimum system requirements, but you can click
"continue" to continue anyway. The game ran fine. Honestly,
I would say that you don't need anywhere near the juice that the
packaging calls for.
