Introduction

Remember those days of traversing large expanses of cities just killing aliens? Those were the days, the days of Duke Nukem. Though Duke Nukem Forever has yet to make a real appearance in the gaming world, these alien games still exist and have made much progress from their crude predecessors.

One such game is Terrawars: NY Invasions. It's developed by Lady Luck Digital Media and co-published with Tri Synergy. Will this alien invasion game live up to what the genre demands, or will it fall short, boring it's target audience? Read on to find out!

Installation and Setup

The system requirements for TerraWars are low enough that even people with older computers can play this game.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Supported OS: Windows 2000/XP
  • CPU: P4 or equivalent
  • Memory: 256MB
  • Video card: 32MB Direct3D compatible card

Installation could not have been any more simple. Insert the CD game disc, and follow the onscreen instructions to install.

Graphics and Sounds 3/5

I ran Terrawars: NY Invasions at 1152X864. It was the highest setting available, which is very odd. It ran without any problems on my machine. My test bed was an AMD Athlon 64 3000+, with 1024MB of Corsair ValueSelect with a Gigabyte 6600GT 128MB PCI-Express video card. One thing that I'd like to note is that this game will run on a 32MB video card with only 256MB of system ram. It is very easily playable on low end systems.

The graphics aren't all that great, especially if you are looking for highend graphics. It's quite different from games that just keep getting more and more realistic such as BattleField 2, Half Life 2, and others. It isn't choppy, and it's very well shaded, but it's a deviation from the realistic games we are becoming used to. But this is what alllows it to run on such a low end sytem, so well.

The sound quality is decent. You have your standard FPS sound effects, including gun shots, grenades, explosions, etc. The music compilation is very well suited for the game. You rarely notice it during the games though. It isn't spectacular, but it does the job well enough.
