You're court side at the biggest came of your career. Shoes squeak as players run down the court, the score is tied with a three pointer and the crowd cheers! You're on the offense now, and the whistle is blown as one of your players is knocked down. You scream obscenities from the sidelines at the referee, calling for a foul. He stops, looks at you, points and goes "You're outta here!". Your team is now without a coach, in the world of Total College Basketball. From the makers of Total Pro Basketball 2005, Wolverine Studios brings to you, a simulator by the name of Total College Basketball.
Story 1/10
This is a basketball simulation game, you go from season to season, obviously coaching a college team of your choice. There isn't a true "story" so to speak to any simulator game. I would've really liked to see some kind of big media influence in the game, whether it be pseudo newspaper articles or pseudo scandals; of course randomly generated.
Graphics 7/10
Graphics? The game runs in a window, with my native resolution of 1280x1024, I had quite a bit of space around, but I couldn't change the resolution. I do however, like the design of the interface, the color theme of blue and a metallic silver-like gray (like our sister site PCApex). It's clean cut, and very nicely done. There are many faces of selectable coaches, which is probably randomly generated, in fact you can definitely tell it is randomly generated by the same characteristics by three of the same faces in the row. The faces look moderately realistic--but for a simulator I expect more. My only other beef with the graphics is on some of the screens you can see heavy graininess in the images, for example on the main splash screen.
Sound 1/10
Total College Basketball, from what I have heard, or rather didn't hear has essentially zero sound. From beginning to end, all I hear is the clicking sound in the game, just a simple "click" whenever you click. That's it, I have heard no whistles, buzzers or anything else. There is even a disable sound option, which I immediately enabled to avoid that horrendous clicking noise. Then I kicked out the jams as I played the game.
